History of the Establishment of Ar Rahman Islamic Boarding School (until 2009)
Ar Rahman Islamic Boarding School (PPA) is one of the Islamic boarding schools located in Plaju Darat sub-district and the only Islamic boarding school in Plaju District, Palembang City, South Sumatra. The establishment of PPA began with the initiative and desire of the leader of the Al-Furqon Dhikr Assembly, Mr. H. M. Sukarman Dewhana, which was then conveyed and discussed with the members of the dhikr assembly and ultimately received a positive response and approval. Because basically, with the establishment or establishment of the Islamic boarding school, the members of the dhikr assembly can realize it in the form of real amaliah to carry out more worship.
The understanding and comprehension obtained through the dhikr assembly aims to ultimately produce humans who can provide benefits to other creatures as the Prophet said “Khairunnas anfauhum lin nas”,, and can become humans who are rahmatan li al-‘alamin, with the belief that has been owned by the members, then one of them named Toha Usman (deceased) in 1993 donated a plot of land with an area of 20,100 meters to be used as a place for Islamic boarding schools. In that year, the land was also pioneered, by clearing the thicket of which at that time the condition was approximately 80% swamp while the remaining 20% was in the form of embankments (galengan: Javanese) with a period of approximately one year, the land which was previously less than the swamp, became balanced by making large holes, the results of the excavation were used as fill in the swamp.
In the following year 1994, Mr. H. Sukarman Dewhana as Promoter and also fundraiser, consulted with members of the Dzikir Council to plan the location of the building and at the same time formed a daily executive chairman to coordinate in the field, that the location that would be used as the building site was first filled, so that when the construction began the location was already high and not flooded by high tides. In 1995, plans were made again for the construction of school buildings and other facilities. Precisely on Thursday, June 22, 1995 (Thursday Pahing, 24 Muharram 1416 H), the first stone was laid by H.M. Arub, SH. (Deputy Governor of South Sumatra), and H. Husni (Mayor of Palembang at that time).
